Grow it
In gardens it’s not just plants that grow. People grow too, and the best bit is that they don’t realise it’s happening. It just happens.
– Costa Georgiadis, ABC Gardening Australia
Growing vegetables, fruit and flowers reconnects us to nature and to the changing seasons. It also ensures that the delicious home-grown produce we eat is fresh and flavoursome and we control what happens to our food, from start to finish. Through understanding our soil and how food grows, we can revitalise our land, rediscover old traditions and revive lost skills. All we need is a few square feet of soil, water, time and a little patience.
What can I do?
There are many different ways to be led down the garden path, all you need to do is take the first few steps:
- Talk to a skilled neighbour or grandparent
- Get in contact with your local community garden
- Start with growing a pot of herbs from a local nursery or farmers market.
