Property, pet and pest management
When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world
– John Muir, Naturalist/Author
The Australian environment is unique, it is amazingly bio-diverse with millions of species of plants and animals many of which cannot be found anywhere else in the world. This isolated, development has resulted in native flora and fauna possessing limited defences to the threats of non-native species hence being highly vulnerable to introduced plants and animals. It is vital that we are extremely conscientious in regards to our pet management and pest control methods.
What can I do?
Here are three hints to help your property, pet and pest management methods:
- Utilize integrated pest management methods when attempting pest control. These methods focus on environmentally friendly methods that are aimed at prevention of an issue, rather than reacting after it has already occurred.
- Before getting a pet make sure you have the right home to suit your preferred animal. Once you’ve welcomed home your new pet, make sure to micro-chip, desex and vaccinate!
- Make your garden environmentally friendly by planting native trees and bushes that are from your local area. Add features to house native wildlife such as possum boxes, frog ponds and insect hotels.
